ePSXe stands for Enhanced PSX Emulator. ePSXe allows individuals to run PSX games on their computer (windows/linux) and android devices. In addition to allowing users the ability to play PSX games, ePSXe goes further and allows individuals to have Real Time Save (RTS) ability, cheat code usage, texture and color changes, patch application that can change the language of games, and even mod development that can change aspects of the original game.
EPSXe has gone through numerous changes since it inception in 2000. The current version of ePSXe is version 1.9 which came out August 3, 2013. The emulator not only emulates the video for the games but through plug-ins is able to emulate the sound, cd-drive, and game pad inputs.
The emulator works by mimicking the operating system of an original PlayStation. However,ePSXe functions by using an image of an official Sony PlayStation BIOS. A BIOS stands for (Basic Input Output System, which allows the system to take the data from a disc and the controller and make it into the video game that changes as the controller inputs are entered.
